about john steinbeck
John Steinbeck was born on February 27, 1902. He drifted in and out of Stanford. He finally dropped out of school for good in 1925. He then moved to New York and worked as a construction worker and newspaper reporter. He then moved back to California and worked as a caretaker in Lake Tahoe. After marrying Carol Henning, he made several more books which recieved bad reviews. Steinbeck was not successful until Tortilla Flat was published. He then made other books such as Dubious Battle, Of Mice And Men, and The Long Valley which had great reviews. One of his most famous books was The Grapes of Wrath which was published in 1939. At the peak of the book's success,there were 10,000 copies sold and won him the Pulitzer Prize. After having great success as a writer, he served as war correspondent in World War ll. At about the same time, he went to Mexico to collect marine life with his friend, Edward F. Ricketts. The book Sea of Cortez was inspired by the time he spent in Mexico. He continued to write after that. For example, Cannery Row, and burning Bright. He died on December 20, 1968 of a heart disease in his home in New York City.
